El incendio de un transformador en las instalaciones de la termoeléctrica Benito Juárez, de la Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), en Playas de Rosarito, provocó una densa humareda tras mezclarse con el aceite, durante la tarde del miércoles 7 de mayo.

Alrededor de las 3:00 p.m., se reportó el incidente al interior de las instalaciones, ubicadas sobre la calle Camino a Pemex, cerca de la carretera libre Tijuana-Ensenada.
Según informó Joaquín Mercado de Santiago, director de Protección Civil y Bomberos de Playas de Rosarito, no se registró ninguna explosión, y el fuego fue controlado por la Brigada Interna de la CFE, en coordinación con la dependencia municipal.

“En las instalaciones de la CFE no hubo ninguna explosión. Simplemente fue un transformador que se incendió y prendió el aceite. El incendio ya está controlado por la brigada, y aquí estamos con estaciones de bomberos en el lugar. Ya está controlado, no hubo mayor gravedad”, afirmó.
Una gran nube de humo negro fue visible desde el municipio rosaritense hasta los alrededores de Tijuana, lo que generó preocupación por una posible propagación hacia las instalaciones de la planta de Pemex, ubicadas en las cercanías; sin embargo, el siniestro fue contenido sin salir del inmueble.

En el lugar permaneció la Dirección de Bomberos, en espera de que el transformador disminuyera su temperatura para realizar las labores pertinentes que aseguren el control total del incidente.
